Peptides for dogs: what the evidence shows so far

The short answer

People use BPC-157 and TB-500 on injured dogs, and some owners report good recoveries. No controlled study in dogs shows either one helps a dog heal. The dog studies we found test safety in healthy beagles. The healing claims come from rodent research, small clinic reports, and sellers.

What the research shows

LimitedBPC-157 in beagles: safety, not healing

Two papers followed BPC-157 in healthy dogs. It broke down fast and was well tolerated. Neither study used injured dogs.

Not dog dataBPC-157 tendon and gut results come from rats

A 2025 review counted 36 studies. Thirty-five were in animals, and none reported clinical safety data in people.

WeakA four-dog case series and vet blog posts

A holistic vet journal reported four dogs with knee ligament trouble who got BPC-157 along with rehab, laser, PRP and rest. The peptide cannot be given credit.

StrongestA different peptide (ELHLD) after TPLO surgery

In a randomized trial of 12 dogs, the peptide group did better in the first weeks. The benefit faded by week 12. It is small, and it is not BPC-157 or TB-500.

WeakVets who explain it plainly

A board-certified sports medicine vet calls BPC-157 promising in lab work with no large dog trials, and an add-on to rehab, never a replacement.

Questions to ask your vet

Bring these to the visit.
  • What is wrong with my dog, and how do we confirm it?
  • Is there an approved option for this problem first?
  • Is there peer-reviewed evidence in dogs for this exact product?
  • Where does it come from, and how is purity checked?
  • How will we measure progress, and when do we stop?
